Michael Orell, with a valid complaint
Contrary to popular belief, the Cash Cab is not just roaming the streets of Manhattan picking up unsuspecting passengers.
A coworker of mine was actually on the show. He told me that he responded to a Craigslist ad looking for “extras” for a TV show shoot. The “casting agent” emailed him back and told him to be at a certain location at a certain date and time.
When he showed up a few days later, the casting agent met him and said “I’m really sorry but the casting call has moved to a different location. Here’s $20. Hop in this cab and ask to go to this address.” That’s when the Cash Cab pulled up and he realized he was on the show.
So, disappointingly, the Cash Cab is not just going around scooping up random people. Which makes sense, because can you imagine if you were actually late for something important and some dude kidnapped you and forced you to participate in a game show?
But - to be fair - the contestants on the show are genuinely surprised to be there.
